I changed my oil in a hurry two days ago. It occurred to me to check the oil level today, and it was low -maybe a quarter of the way up the dipstick. I had a friend drop off a quart at work and I topped it off. I ride it maybe 40 miles in two days like that. Is it likely I permanently damaged anything?

Assuming your readiing it on thd correct part of thd dipstick. A quarter of the way of the dipstick doesn't really make any sense. how many cc's is the engine? Some 50 cc scooters take less than a quart.
Is it a 150cc? A quarter for 40miles you will survive. How much did you put in? Your question is lacking in info. If you break down or need an oil change andrew trucker service does towing and tune ups to keep you away from tbis sort of case senerio.
