Here's Kaj's advice after his recent loss, please add your suggestions to this thread.

1. Call the cops
2. Call your insurance company

Check to see if there are any surveillance camera in that area.
Was it parked in front of a building with a doorman? If so ask the doorman if he saw anything.
Post a picture of your bike on this forum and other scooter forums.
Walk around that neighborhood and check to see if the bike is lying around somewhere.
Call all dealers in the Tristate area let them know that your bike was stolen.
Post stolen bike on Craig's list.
Post flyers in the neighborhood with reward.
If you removed the plate check with the sanitation dept.

Forgot one more thing. After you get the police report
take it to the DMV right away they will give you a green
paper stating that you have surrended the plates.
You might need to submit a copy to the insurance
company. This doesn't apply to you but if you
live in a spanish neighborhood like me it helps to
translate the flyers into spanish or whatever other language
since there are many people who don't speak or read english
who might have seen something.

Definitely include the Scoot.net Stolen Scooter Registry in your list of sites on which to post your stolen bike.

How to check to see if you got towed.

http://nycserv.nyc.gov/NYCServWeb/NYCSERVMain

Select Parking Tickets then click GO.

Enter the Plate Number and check the following boxes:

Has this vehicle been towed?
Return only selected plate?

This should tell you if it was towed and where it is.

If you still can't track down your ride call the police precinct that covers the location where you were parked.

Hope this helps.
