At the NYC Department of Finance web site (NOT the DMV site) you can look up violations or fine amounts, obtain information on how to pay a ticket, enter into a payment plan, request a hearing, satisfy a ticket in judgment or appeal a hearing decision:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dof/html/parkin ... ions.shtml

A guide to parking ticket hearings is provided here:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dof/html/pdf/07 ... _guide.pdf

Got my first ticket that I have to pay...was on a borrowed car not my scoot.

Just want to make it clear to everyone that if you dispute a ticket online, via mail, or web, you automatically get a discounted ticket. So, if you have a ticket you must pay i.e. you forgot to take your plate off, they just go to this website http://nycserv.nyc.gov/NYCServWeb/NYCSERVMain and click on " Request Hearing For:" and in a few screens (after you put ticket number in) you will be offered a discount rate that you can pay instead of requesting an online hearing.

Note that some tickets like fire hydrant tickets are not subject to a discount...

Hope this helps you save a few bucks

regards

Also, you will never ever get a dismissal by mail no matter how good your proof is. You have to appear to beat a parker. If you have a defense, you can win. If you have an excuse, that is a guilty plea.

I just double parked to pick up pizza is not a defense.

I beat over 6 Parkers via email. I guess the risk is if you lose there is no going to court to fight.

I had one where the TEA ignored my official parking permit. Then I sent in a not guilty with a certificate signed by the Supreme Court that I have a permit and was in a proper space. DENIED.

Had to go in person. Dismissed in ten (10) seconds.

The below link show the settlement amount for each type of Parking Ticket Violation in PDF Format:

http://council.nyc.gov/d43/image/PDFDocs/settlementchart.pdf

NY Times Article on Parking Summons Settlement Program:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/02/nyregion/02parking.html

View Ticket Copies Online:

http://nycserv.nyc.gov/NYCServWeb/NYCSERVMain

You can view images of outstanding tickets online at Finance's ePayment Center.

Tickets issued via handheld computer are generally available within 5 business days.

While those completed by hand will appear in the system within 10 to 14 days.

If you do decide to plead NOT GUILTY to a Parking summons a few words of advice from the book

http://Beatthatparkingticket.com by Haskell Nussbaum, Former NYC Parking Ticket Judge:

* If you’re relying on them taking you at your word – always go for a live hearing

By sending in your evidence by mail or internet, your chances of being convincing drop like a stone. The key is to be there to answer their skeptical questions with credible replies.

* Mail in just the summons number – not the actual ticket

By mailing in just the number, you force the judges to look at only the “official” ticket on their computer screens – a ticket that may have technical defects that are easier for them to overlook if they have the ticket itself in front of them. For live hearings – download the official ticket from the web and bring in that.

· Never say that you needed to go to the bathroom

It’s not obvious, but this is one excuse that will never work. Mostly because it falls into the category of good excuses the judges hear way too often.

· You can only double park long enough to drop someone off or pick someone up

Sometimes the cops are nice and won’t ticket you when it’s street-cleaning time, but officially double parking is a no-no all the time – unless you’re “expeditiously” dropping off or picking up a passenger.

Please note that the Settlement Program, which offered a reduced fine instead of a hearing, has ended as of January 31, 2012.
