So maybe you got a parking ticket but only your VIN was listed on there rather than your plate number.

In a week or so, you can type in your plate number here and see if you have any unpaid parking tickets associated with your plate number (and you):

http://nycserv.nyc.gov/NYCServInquiry/NYCSERVMain

You can also search and pay the following with this same URL:
- Check parking ticket status
- Locate towed vehicle
- Plate number
- Red Light violation
- Property taxes by BBL
- Property taxes by address
- Find property tax payment history
- Check last property tax payment
- Water charges
- Water payment history
- ECB violations
- Health violations
- Check health violations last payment
- Consumer Affairs violations
- Check Consumer Affairs violations last payment
- Business Tax

Remember:

1. Wait a week or two before checking (it can take that long to get into the system)

2. Search by plate number. And under "Type" make sure you select "All."

DON'T search by ticket/violation number. If you do, it will say:
Quote:
NYCSERV Payments | Payment not allowed through this system.

The violation or plate number entered has been blocked from payment through this system. This blocking is intentional. You must pay in person at a Borough Payment and Adjudication Center.

This is known as the "get the dummy to come turn himself in" notice.

And you're not a dummy, are you?

I didn't think so. :-)

To date, no one has posted on this forum that a ticket made out to their VIN--and was not traced to the plate number on the database--later came back to haunt the rider. However, scosgt makes an important point:

Unfortunately, the computer record is never erased.

When I applied for my job, I revealed that I got a speeding ticket in 1968 on the Belt Parkway (Laurelton Expy). I went to the Court House in LIC to pay the ticket. At that time, traffic Court was a part of NYC Criminal Court.

So in 1982 I was told by my investigator to get an official disposition of the charges.

I made the inquiry. I was told the records were in the archives, and without a Court Order no one was going to go look for it, so forget it. I just wrote a note to that effect. At the same time, they found a parking summons from maybe 1979. I was forced to go down to the old Tweed Court downtown and pay $200 for a $50 ticket (the penalty).

Now, everything is on computer. It never ever goes away. It will come back to bite you on the azz some day. If you want to take a chance that you will die first, that is your choice.

Just remember, every single day the marshalls are out with tow trucks grabbing cars with only one unpaid parking ticket. They muster every day at 202st and Jamaica Ave in Queens (at least THAT Marshall does). On my way to work every day I see them lining up the towed cars.

So do what you want. Personally, I would fight it or pay it or whatever. It is cheaper now. And by all accounts, you are gulity of the offense. Like they say, if you do the crime be prepared to do the time.

So in the end...
