****Vespa VS. Lambretta****

OK, here it is, the classic showdown we've all dreamed of seeing - a 1/4 mile drag race on antique motoscooters!
Just wait, these bikes are all juiced up with performance enhancers and lovingly built by the two competitors... it will be FAST!

402 meters takes about 1.3 seconds at the speed of sound.

boom.

bring your earplugs.

A word of caution - this is an unsanctioned race that will be quickly performed! The airfield is patrolled more and more by park rangers so if you are riding out, it would be a good idea to have your scooters street legal!

See image attached with all the useful details - and please share with anyone who cares:)

Were: Floyd Bennett Field - Map HERE

When: Saturday May 2nd @ 12pm

Ride fast and stay safe from taxis,
Zachary

P.S. - Anyone is welcome to challenge the winner for the crown!
Also, some riding and food may be in order post race!

So we had drag race, but not the one advertised!
After a nice 14 mile brisk ride out to the airfield, the V3$p@ developed some poor running symptoms and could not be safely run (these things happen, but ah, the irony is beyond words!)... the diagnosis turned out to be a loose cylinder/head and broken CDI wire!
Fellow club member, Stu, stepped up to challenge - the race was back on!
Stu had come out from Harrisburg, PA with his amazing liquid cooled Dijon Dream custom (go team Serveta;) - anticipation was through the roof to see what this monster would do! Everyone freaked when he started it up;)

The aerial drone was a no show but there was some great camera phone footage of the event (not sure how to post videos yet, but they are on facebook and instagram).
This was a shorter 1/8th mile strip... the day was perfect (aside from Andi's V3$p@ fail) with 18 people attending and huge thanks to Brenda and Wanda for the sexy flag work!
-Marion took the first round.
-The second was a wash due to some dodgy flag signals.
-Marion took the third round.
The winner was decisively Marian on the Spanish eating Endgegner!

The New York Speed Championship prizes were issued - the official brass flywheel holding tool styled trophy for the winner and two packs of "Grime Boss" grease wipes for the loser!

The original race will be rescheduled - make no mistake, Andi's Quattrini will race Endgegner another day!
I have updated the poster to reflect Stu's participation and as promised, here are the bike stats.

Thanks to everyone for the help and interest in this event!
