Welcome to the Scooter BlockParty NYC 2008 information page. As always, everyone is welcome to attend this FREE event, which features group rides, live music, and a slow race. Food, beer, patches, t-shirts and raffle tickets will be available for purchase throughout the weekend as well.

As in prior years, the principal venue will be our regular Wednesday Night Meet-up location, the Brass Monkey, 55 Little West 12th Street (map & directions).

LATEST BLOCKPARTY SCHEDULE:

Day 1 - Saturday, May 31st:

10:00 AM: BLOCKPARTY DAY 1 BEGINS/REGISTRATION - Why wait? Show your support and pick up a BlockParty logo t-shirt, patch and raffle tickets (available all weekend, while supplies last). Meet scooter-related vendors. Location: Brass Monkey

NOTE: All riders must sign a waiver and obtain a free wristband to join any and all group rides. If you like, you can print a copy of the waiver in advance to sign and bring with you here (PDF format).

12:00 PM: PIERMONT RIDE - CANCELLED DUE TO RAIN - Take a scenic ride from the Brass Monkey along the Palisades and beautiful Route 9W. Stop for lunch at Cafe Portofino, home of the Rockland Scooter Club. Ride lead: Sandy (Chai_latte2go) and the Rockland Scooter Club up, Herb (tispectrum) back (duration ~3.5 hours) Starting location: Brass Monkey. Ride experience: Moderate

12:00PM-1:30 PM: A la carte lunch available at the Brass Monkey for those not on the Piermont Ride.

1:30 PM: GREENWICH VILLAGE BEGINNERS RIDE - Slow and easy ride, perfect for beginners (and late sleepers). Ride lead: Drue (duration ~1.5 hours) Starting location: Brass Monkey. Ride experience: Beginner

2:30 PM: RIDE TO THE CLOISTERS - LAST MINUTE REPLACEMENT RIDE (SUN IS OUT)! Up 10th Avenue, Riverside Drive to the Cloisters and back. Ride lead: Brouhaha (duration ~2 hours) Starting location: Brass Monkey. Ride experience: Beginner

3:30 PM - RIDES LEAVE FOR BROOKLYNBRETTA - POSTPONED UNTIL SUNDAY DUE TO RAIN, SEE BELOW - Several groups will leave for the evening festivities at Brooklynbretta on Sackett Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues in Brooklyn. Ride lead: Jonathan (Brouhaha) (duration ~1/2 hour) Starting location: Brass Monkey. Ride experience: Beginner

4:00 PM - BROOKLYNBRETTA BBQ - POSTPONED UNTIL SUNDAY DUE TO RAIN, SEE BELOW - The block in front of Brooklynbretta (map & directions) is the spot for Saturday’s MAIN EVENT: Hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob and live music. (duration ~4 hours).

9:00 PM: TIMES SQUARE NIGHT RIDE - Big night ride from the Brass Monkey up the West Side and to and through Times Square. Ride Leads: BlockParty Organizers (duration ~1.5 hour) Starting location: Brass Monkey. Ride experience: Moderate

10:30 PM - HIT THE TOWN - If you still have the energy (and of course you do)! Location: Local scooterist (and iscootny creator) Stian Nilsen’s bar, the Greenwich Treehouse. If you’re drinkin’ leave the scoot and take the subway. (duration ??? hours).

Day 2 - Sunday, June 1st:

9:00 AM: BLOCKPARTY DAY 2 BEGINS/MEET FOR BREAKFAST - Join us at the old school Park Plaza Diner right over the Brooklyn Bridge on Cadaman Plaza West (map & directions) for eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, bagel with a schmear, whatev. Group ride to the Brass Monkey afterward in time for the next ride. (duration ~1 hour) Ride experience: Beginner

10:30 AM: SCOOTERS O, NEW JERSEY AND YOU (PERFECT TOGETHER) RIDE - Ride from the Brass Monkey for a long Sunday jaunt along the winding roads of the Garden State, ending up at Scooters Originali (map & directions) for lunch. Ride lead: Brendan (Hendon) (duration ~3.5 hours) Starting location: Brass Monkey. Ride experience: Moderate (involves some highway driving)

2:00 PM-3:30 PM: Lunch available at Scooters Originali

3:30 PM: RETURN TO NEW YORK CITY RIDE - Group ride from Scooters O to BROOKLYNBRETTA. (duration ~1/2 hour) A small group will stop briefly at the Brass Monkey to pick up some stuff and meet stragglers for an escort to Bretta. Starting location: Scooters Originali. Ride experience: Moderate

5:00 PM: SLOW RACE COMPETITION - AT BROOKLYNBRETTA, see who can make it from one end of the block to the other the slowest on two wheels (without putting a foot down). Organizer: Heather. (duration ~1/2 hour) Ride experience: Beginner

5:30 PM: RAFFLE OF DONATED PRIZES - NOW MOVED TO BROOKLYNBRETTA - Ya gotta be in it to win it! Tickets will be available for $1 all weekend. Must be present to win. Organizers: Tony (BigRuckusNJ) and Jonathan (Brouhaha). (duration ~1/2 hour)

6:00 PM - BROOKLYNBRETTA BBQ - The block in front of Brooklynbretta (map & directions) is the spot for hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob and live music. (duration ~3 hours).
